What decides a fence or gate.
What the parcel allows
Height and placement depend on the city, the yard (front, side or rear), corner sight lines and pool rules. We check the rule for your parcel before the design is final.
Posts, footings and grade
The posts carry the fence. Their size, depth and spacing follow the height, soil, wind and gate weight. On a slope we measure first, then choose stepped or raked panels.
Material for LA sun and wind
Redwood, composite, steel and aluminum age differently. We compare look, upkeep and repair before you choose. A powered gate is chosen with its frame, posts, operator and safety devices, never alone.

Do I need a permit for a new fence in Los Angeles?
It depends on the material, the height, where the fence stands on the lot, and the city or county the parcel is in. Front-yard fences, retaining sections and pool barriers have their own rules. We check the rule for your parcel before the design is final, and our fence permit guide walks through the details.
Can you build a gate that matches my fence?
Yes. We match the material, spacing and finish, and the gate gets its own posts sized for its weight. An old fence post is rarely the right post for a new gate.
Should I repair my fence or replace it?
If the posts are sound, a repair is often enough: new boards, rails or a rebuilt gate. When posts lean or rot along the run, replacing the line is usually the better spend. Our repair-or-replace guide lists the signs.
Do you install electric and automatic driveway gates?
Yes. A powered gate is planned as one system: frame, posts, hinges or track, operator, power and safety devices. Picking the operator first and the gate later is where most gate problems start.
Why does my automatic gate keep reversing?
Usually the operator is meeting resistance and doing exactly what it should. Check for an obstruction in the track or swing path, debris on a slide track, a dirty or misaligned photo eye, or a gate that has begun to bind at the hinges or rollers. Increasing the force setting to push through resistance is the wrong response and is unsafe.
How do I know if the problem is the gate or the operator?
Release the operator using the manual disconnect and move the gate by hand. If it swings or slides smoothly and stays where you leave it, the gate is fine and the fault is electrical or in the operator. If it is stiff, drags, or drifts closed, the mechanical problem must be fixed first — the operator is only the thing that noticed it.
What safety devices does an automatic gate need?
Automatic vehicular gates are governed by safety standards that require entrapment protection — typically photo eyes and inherent reversing sensing — along with correct edge and gap treatment. These prevent a heavy powered gate from closing on a person, a child or a vehicle. They must be present, working and tested, not disabled because they are triggering.
