What decides a paver or concrete job.
Where the water goes
We look at where water starts, where the new surface sends it, and how it moves away from the house before choosing the surface.
Base and load
A driveway carries a car; a walk carries feet. The base, thickness and reinforcement follow the load and the soil.
Edges and transitions
Borders, joints, steps and the meeting point with walls, gates and old paving are planned together, so levels meet cleanly.

Pavers and concrete, answered.
Pavers or concrete for a driveway?
Concrete gives one smooth surface for less up front. Pavers cost more to lay, but a single damaged area can be lifted and reset. Our driveway guide compares the two for Los Angeles.
Will new paving fix my drainage problem?
Only if drainage is part of the plan. The slope of the new surface, drains and permeable areas are decided before the first paver goes down.
Do you install artificial turf?
Yes. Turf is laid on a compacted base with a clean edge where it meets paving, planters or walls.
Why did my new concrete crack?
Concrete shrinks as it cures and will crack. Control joints are cut to decide where. Cracks outside the joints usually mean joints were cut too late or spaced too far apart, the base was not properly compacted, the slab was too thin for the load, or water was added to the mix on site to make it easier to place.
Do I need a permit for a driveway or patio in Los Angeles?
Flatwork replacement is often treated more simply than structures, but a new or widened driveway approach usually involves the public right of way and requires a separate encroachment or curb-cut permit. Grading, drainage changes and work in hillside areas add requirements. Confirm with your city or county for your address.
Can pavers be installed over an existing concrete slab?
Sometimes, if the slab is sound, drains correctly and the resulting height still works at doors, steps and the garage. If the existing slab is cracked, moving or holding water, overlaying it transfers those problems into the new surface. An honest assessment of the existing slab comes first.
